September to Celebrate Seniors
Older adults are encouraged to visit the Grafton Senior Center.

The spotlight is on seniors in September during National Senior Center Month. Selectmen approved a proclamation at the Aug. 16 meeting making the month-long celebration official.
Senior centers are changing. As a new generation of older adults looks to redefine retirement, there is a growing focus on wellness, work and volunteerism. When it comes to finding tools for staying healthy and involved or information about benefits, senior centers are the place to start.
The invites mature adults to visit the center and participate in its programs.

Magic, comedy and a pizza party will be held during It Happens at My Senior Center. My Life. My Time. My Way., the theme of this year’s celebration. The celebration, which offers seniors a chance to learn about the center and socialize with other mature adults, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 12, at the center.
Other events include a dessert party, with diabetic offerings also provided, at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14, and free line dancing classes Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. starting Sept. 15. (Donations will be accepted for the Grafton Food Bank.)

Grafton Senior Center provides congregate meals, volunteer placement, information and referrals, and wellness workshops. The center also offers innovative activities and programming such as senior exercise classes, Tai Chi, chair yoga, computer classes and card games.
“The people coming into our center have deep ties to the community and are excited about sharing their diverse skills and talents,” said Michelle Drumm, Director of the Grafton Senior Center, in a prepared statement. “Our goal is to provide the resources and opportunities to help older adults manage their lives and find new ways to contribute.”
