VIDEO: A Salute to Everyday Heroes

Members of the community were honored last night as everyday heroes for the positive impact they have made on the lives of youngsters with special needs.

And that not  an honor to be taken lightly, Superintendent of Schools Joseph Connors told the recipients.

"I don't think there's a better award than to be recognized for improving the life of another person,'' he said.

The third annual Everyday Heroes awards were presented by the Grafton Special Education Parent Advisory Council at a ceremony at Grafton High School.

A special award was presented to Peg Koomey, who donated a van to transport special needs students to the school department in memory of her husband, Dr. John Koomey.

The van, which bears the insignia "In Memory of Poppy,'' transports special needs students to various events and activities, including the ceremony last night.

The everyday heroes were  nominated by families of special needs students and staff members of the Grafton schools.
