Ice Cream Social Needs Volunteers

Volunteers are needed for the Grafton Education Alliance's 11th annual ice cream social at 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 15, at Grafton Common.

The event lasts until the ice cream runs out. Volunteer times are organized into 45-minute blocks so you can have plenty of time to enjoy the event as well.

When you arrive, either check in at the ticket table or you may go directly to your assigned area. Proceeds from this ever-popular event will benefit GEA initiatives. In the event of rain, the event will be held on the same date and time at Grafton Elementary School on Millbury Street.

Art Displayed at Valley Tech

On Thursday, May 19 the arts were celebrated at Blackstone Valley Tech as the school hosted its Artworks exhibit.

The evening included choral performances as well as a gallery filled with student art. The gallery buzzed with guests perusing the various student art on display that included drawings, sculptures, jewelry, paintings and numerous other medium.

A highlight of the exhibit was the unveiling of the school’s Artworks magazine. The magazine is a printed collection featuring the images of the art that was on display at the exhibit laced with student writings filled with heartfelt student emotion and creativity.

Valley Tech’s Artworks magazine editorial and layout staff included Valley Tech Graphic Communications students Natasha Poulin (junior) and Sarah Jackson (senior). Faculty advisors included Matthew Sutton, Renee Montero-Bernard, Vicki Serra and Sandra Gregson.

Artworks is supported in part by grants from the Grafton, Milford and Northbridge Cultural Councils, local agencies which are supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.
