What To Do In Case of Emergency
Emergency response team members offer information that could save your life.

With New England weather so unpredictable, members of Grafton's Community Emergency Response Team want the public to know what to do if local public safety officials call for an evacuation due to flooding, loss of electricity or other emergencies Â
Here is some important information to know:
HOW DO I KNOW WHEN TO EVACUATE? ÂListen to your local cable or radio station or dial 2-1-1.

You will be directed to the Grafton Emergency Shelter, which is in the gym of the , 30 Providence Road. Â This is located behind the , 30 Providence Road.
Parking and entrance to the shelter is in the back of the building. Remember to lock your car.

HOW TO PLAN FOR THE EVACUATION
 Have planned a number of routes to take to the Municipal Center if your road is closed.  Follow directions given by your local Police Department.
If you do not have personal transportation, make arrangements with a friend, neighbor, or fill out the Grafton form at the Grafton Senior Center.
Have assembled an emergency disaster kit. Â Check tomorrow for more information about what to include.
 Keep your car fueled if evacuation seems likely. Remember, gas stations may be closed during emergencies.
Know how to shut off your home’s electricity, water and gas main switches.
WHAT TO DO IF ASKED/TOLD TO EVACUATE
Gather everyone in your house together so you know where they are and they can help get  supplies ready.
Do not call your local police or fire department for information. Emergency workers will need  these lines.            Â
Turn  to your local radio or cable stations or dial Mass2-1-1  for information on what to do.
Turn off all lights and unnecessary appliances and lock windows, and doors.
Check with your neighbors to see if they need assistance or a ride.
Let someone know where you are going.
WHAT TO TAKE WITH YOU
- Essential items you will need for at least 3 days.
- Clothing for at least 3 days.
- Toilet items, soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, shampoo and other essentials.
- Prescription medications, medical equipment, and important medical records.
- Special dietary food
- Sleeping bag, blankets, pillows, and towels. Â Toys and games for your children
- Checkbook, credit cards, and cash  Â
- Only seeing-eye dogs or other service animals are allowed into the shelter. Make plans for you pets
