Derby Academy Raises Money for One Fund
Derby Academy raised $2,239 through various events in May.
Students and staff at Derby Academy raised $2,239 for victims of the Boston Marathon bombings with a donation to the One Fund.
The largest fundraiser was a Wear What You Want Day, organized by Annabel Kiley (Grade 6, Duxbury) and Ashleigh Hogan (Grade 8, Duxbury). Students and faculty donated $5 to dress down and wear blue and yellow. One Fund shirts were also available.
The school raised nearly $2,000 with the out-of-dress-code day and the shirts.
Derby's Middle School Council also joined the fundraising efforts, donating $200 in profits from a recent pizza sale.
The final event for Derby's One Fund collect was organized by Hingham fifth graders, Ella Benjamin, Charlie Struzziero and Sadie Compson. The girls ran a lemonade stand that raised almost $80.
"Thank you to everyone who so generously donated as well as all those students and faculty who helped to organize the various fundraisers," said Stacy Jagodowski, director of communications, in a press release.
