Hingham High Hall of Fame Honors Scholarship Winners

A small reception was held for Jane Freda and Ricky Sullivan, the 2013 Hingham High School Hall of Fame scholarship recipients.

As their athletic careers at Hingham High School wind down, a male and female athlete were honored at Black Rock on Wednesday night as the recipients of the annual Hingham High Hall of Fame scholarships.

Ricky Sullivan, a football and basketball captain, and Jane Freda, a soccer player and captain of the ice hockey and track teams, are the 2013 scholarship winners.

"As student athletes, they really represent the best of Hingham High," said Athletic Director Margaret Conaty.

The Hingham High School Hall of Fame holds inductions every two years and awards scholarships annually. The scholarships have been awarded to a boy and girl athlete since 1999, based not just on on-field accolades, but "integrity, character, dedication and sportsmanship."

Hall of Fame Chairman Bill Barges explained that coaches provide input on players and the Hall of Fame's 14-person board make the final scholarship selections.

"It's a pleasure to speak to individuals like you and your parents so we can see why the coaches recommended you," Barges said to the scholarship recipients.

The quiet reception was attended by family, coaches and representatives of the Hall of Fame board.

"Tonight's honor was meant to be intimate and special and we hope it's a great memory," Conaty said to Sullivan and Freda.

Freda will attend Middlebury College in the fall and Sullivan will enroll at East Bridgewater State.
