South Shore YMCA Receives Grants in Support of Maple Day
Enjoy this community event at the South Shore Y Natural Science Center to celebrate the New England maple sugaring season.

The South Shore YMCA has received grants totaling $1,275 from the Weymouth, Rockland, Hingham and Norwell Cultural Councils to support cultural performers of various kinds at Maple Day on March 2, 2024, at the South Shore YMCA Natural Science Center in Norwell. Local Cultural Councils are local agencies which are supported by the Mass Cultural Council, a state agency.
Maple Day is the Y’s way of celebrating the traditional New England maple harvesting season. It’s intentionally designed to be equally educational and delicious, with a tree-tapping demonstration, nature walks, kids’ crafts, live music, maple taste tests, a maple lab, maple food vendors, and more.
“Whenever you hear live music playing at Maple Day,” said Sarah Kugel, Environmental Education Coordinator at the South Shore YMCA Natural Science Center, “or see a storyteller putting smiles on kids’ faces, that’s thanks to the Local Cultural Councils. We can’t thank them enough for supporting our vision of bringing such fun family programming to the South Shore.
