5 Things You Need to Know: Lantern Festival in Forest Hills
Light up your summer night.

1. Annual Lantern Festival: The Forest Hills Cemetery's 15th annual Lantern Festival is Thursday night, 6 to 9 p.m. The event is free but there is a charge of $10 per car to park. The rain makeup date is July 25. Here are some photos from last year's festival.
2. Roadwork: Driving around Jamaica Plain lately has not been difficult during the day. There was just one section of JP that was a little tight Wednesday, and that was along Washington Street near McBride. Watch for crews paving the road there.
3. JP Patios: Where's your favorite place to dine outside in Jamaica Plain. Remember, two new outdoor spots opened recently: Cafe Bartlett Square and Simpli Bar and Bites.
4. Heatwave: The summer heatwave will likely continue with temperatures approaching 95 degrees.
5. Shakespeare on the Common: Commonwealth Shakespeare Company offers free Shakespeare On The Common throughout the month of July. Upcoming performances of “The Two Gentlemen of Verona” are scheduled for July 18 at 1 p.m., July 21 at 7 p.m. and July 23-26 at 8 p.m. For reserved chairs and to order picnic boxes, visit www.commshakes.org.
