Fatal T Crash Snarls Afternoon Commute in JP

Buses replaced Orange Line trains during the Wednesday evening commuter after a woman was struck and killed.

Police continue to investigate an incident at Stony Brook Station that left one dead Wednesday afternoon.

A woman reported to be in her 30s was struck and killed by an inbound Orange Line train at about 2:45 p.m. Wednesday, according to MBTA Transit Police. Police said she was trespassing at the time of the crash, according to the Transit Police news blog.

Buses replaced Orange Line trains between Ruggles and Forest Hills stations for the afternoon commute hours, and the 39 bus was delayed due to heavy traffic, according to alerts.

According to the twitter account of FORCV.com, an eyewitness said the woman was trying to cross the tracks before she was struck.

The victim was still stuck under the train two hours following the incident, according to FORCV.

Others on social media reported hour-long waits at Ruggles Station during the 4 o’clock hour.

Sara Henriquez commented: "Crazy stuff! Geez 57min wait at ruggles to go home! Just because of that!" on Jamaica Plain Patch’s Facebook page.

Jamaica Plain's main streets were gridlocked for much of the afternoon and earlier in the day, due to construction work along the Centre/South street area.
