Minding Your Beeswax in JP

The Benevolent Bee, a Jamaica Plain apiary, will host a workshop all about bees.

Ever wanted to melt your own honeycomb into beeswax? Maybe you just like being around bees. You can indulge both of those desires today in Jamaica Plain.

The Benevolent Bee, a Jamaica Plain apiary and honey harvest, present All About Your Beeswax, a workshop where experts will teach how to work with bees and their byproducts.

Here’s what they’ll teach:

  • amazing facts about the main products of the honeybee hive: honey, beeswax, propolis, pollen, and royal jelly 
  • when, how, and why these products are produced by the bees, and some of their medicinal properties 
  • how to melt and filter raw honeycomb into useable beeswax 
  • simple recipes for using the products of the hive to make infused honey, candles, and lip balm 

Participants will also taste infused honey and create lip-balm from an easy-to-follow recipe.

- Participants will take home a tube of their own lip balm as well.

The event will take place at Agricultural Hall, 245 Amory St. at 3 p.m. Cost of the event is $15. Register in advance here.
