Monday Essentials: New Mural; O'Malley in Hyde Square

1. Free Pancakes: This Friday, July 26, Ferris Wheels Bike Shop will host a free pancake breakfast for bike commuters and friends. Breakfast is served at 7 a.m.

2. O'Malley in Hyde Square: Also this Friday, District 6 City Councilor Matt O'Malley will walk the Hyde Square and Jackson Square business districts at 3 p.m. He'll start at Hyde/Jackson Main Streets, 329 Centre St.

3. Purple Cactus Mural: The old mural on the Seaverns Avenue side of the Purple Cactus building is gone. But don't be alarmed, the city is painting a new one over the coming weeks, and putting city teens to work in the process.

4. Officials Meet: The Jamaica Plain Neighborhood Council executive committee will meet this Thursday, July 25 at 6:30 p.m. at J.P. Licks.

5. Out of Town Travel: Crews have begun Phase One of a longterm construction project at the Longfellow Bridge, which connects Kendall Square in Cambridge to Boston.
