New Centre Street Clothier (Finally) Opens

After a several month delay, Caramelo Clothing has opened.

Café Society was boarded up last February and the space at 606 Centre St. was quickly snatched up by Carolina Tejedor-Meyers, a longtime Jamaica Plain resident eager to open her boutique men’s clothing store in March.

The signs for Caramelo Clothing went up, but the doors stayed locked through March, and April and May.

Caramelo Clothing was being help up by paperwork. Tejedor-Meyers had to get a necessary certificate of occupancy form from the City of Boston.

“It moved slowly,” she said at her shop, adding that city and neighborhood officials, her landlords and others were in fact very helpful in getting the proper permitting.

The shop opened Thursday, just in time for June’s “First Thursday” event, and Tejedor-Meyers is just happy to be able to let the public in.

“I’m invested,” she said, a smile on her face. “And I’m not going anywhere.”
