Book lovers and bibliophiles in the Jamaica Plain area are in store for something special this fall, as a new independent bookstore is preparing to open its doors.
Kate Layte, a JP resident and former bookseller for the now-defunct Borders, is working to open Papercuts, JP in a 500 square-foot space this November, according to Publisher’s Weekly.

The store has reportedly been in the planning stages for about two years, and Layte just recently signed the lease for the new space at 5 Green St. this month, according to Dig Boston.
Meanwhile, shop is looking to raise about $30,000 in funding via IndieGoGo to order new inventory, set up a point-of-sale system, set up an e-commerce website and install shelving. To donate in support of Papercuts, click here.

Here’s what Layte had to say about the effort on the IndieGoGo page:
“JP’s a diverse place full of interesting people and I’m working hard to curate an incredible collection of the best books for the neighborhood. Some friends helped me set up a Facebook page a couple weeks ago and we asked some simple questions like “What are you reading this weekend?” And instead of algorithms swooping in, we’ve been taking down the titles and those are the books we’ll be stocking the store with—what the community wants to read. I’ve also been paying close attention to what books are beautifully written and designed, thoughtful, creative, and a treasure to hold. There are already some exciting authors lined up for events this fall/winter and there will be ongoing book clubs, music and poetry events, game nights, and lots more good things to get you out of your home and engaged with your wonderful neighbors.
Can’t wait to open our doors and hope you can help make it happen!”
