News and notes from the Aug. 2 selectmen meeting.
News and notes from the Aug. 2 Board of Selectmen meeting:
- Selectmen signed a purchase and sale agreement for Cotton Farm, and authorized Town Manager Carl Valente to sign additional documents relating to the sale. The town is purchasing 4.21 acres of land from Thomas Cataldo, trustee for Cotton Farm Realty Trust, for $3.8 million. Selectmen also approved a donation agreement for a 14.5-acre parcel off Hartwell Avenue with Cataldo.
- Selectmen approved an amendment to the fiscal 2010 budget's building rental revolving fund, increasing the expenditure limit from $275,000 to $307,000. The increase is needed to cover unanticipated overtime costs, and there is sufficient revenue from the rentals to finance those expenditures.
- Selectmen reappointed to one-year terms Town Celebration Committee members Mary Gillespie, Henry Murphy and Charles Price; and subcommittee members Julie Miller, William Mix, Paul Jenkins, Jim Shaw and John Rossi. Richard Crogan, Linda Dixon and Dave Taylor were also appointed to the subcommittee.
- Selectmen appointed Bill Kennedy as an associate member of the filling the unexpired term of David Williams until Sept. 30, and continuing for another one-year term until Sept. 2011.
- Selectmen appointed Stephanie Wolk Lawrence to the a three-year term on the Human Services Committee, to expire Sept. 30, 2010; appointed Betsey Weiss to the Leary Committee as the CPC representative; and appointed Denise Dube, Jessie Steigerwald and Ernest Van Seasholes to the 300th Anniversary Celebration Committee.
- Selectmen signed the warrant for the Sept. 14 state primary.
- Selectmen approved two bench locations within the stone wall in front of the Crafty Yankee. The benches are being placed there by a resident, in honor of her mother, Mabel Hall, who died recently.
- Selectmen approved use of the Bikeway for an Aug. 14 MassBike event, pending approval from the Bicycle Advisory Committee's formal vote on Aug. 10. Police and recreation officials have no issues with the event, the Summer Century and Family Ride.
- Selectmen approved a one-day liquor license for the Lexington Arts & Crafts Society's 75th Anniversary celebration, to serve beer and wine Sept. 10 from 6 to 10 p.m.; and approved the Town Celebrations Committee request for a Veteran's Day parade and ceremonies on Nov. 11.
- Selectmen approved use of the Battle Green by the Masonic Learning Center for Children's Annual Battle Green Walk Sunday, Oct. 3, from noon to 2 p.m.
