After the showing, viewers are invited to to discuss the film.
This film has already generated much controversy. It was chosen because Lexington Stand for Children members think it does a great service in drawing attention to the inequalities of public education in America, especially for inner-city children. It paints a shocking picture of what can happen even to the best-motivated students and families when the system lets them down.
We would like this film to be a jumping-off point for a discussion of how we can serve our children better. As far as Stand for Children is concerned, that is our only agenda. We don't have to agree with everything in the film in order to agree with its main point: that all children are entitled to a first-rate public education.
