On Wednesday, June 23, a Pleasant Street resident reported heavy smoke coming from the chimney for about 10 minutes around 7:23 a.m. Firefighters found no smoke coming from the chimney on arrival, and checked the basement and shut down two oil burners.
Firefighters found evidence of a lightening strike at a Cary Avenue home on Thursday, around 6:11 p.m. The lightening appeared to have struck the front yard and traveled across the yard and entered the home at the corner of the house above the foundation. Firefighters used a thermal imaging camera to check the interior of the house and found no sign of fire.
Also on Thursday, around 6:19 p.m., a Pleasant Street resident reported returning home to find a blackened outlet in a hallway, and a burnt and broken switch, and no power in the house. Firefighters examined the circuit breaker and found a 100-amp had been tripped. The switch was broken and in pieces, and there were singe marks around the switch plate. Firefighters used a thermal imaging camera to check for heat in the walls, roof, attic, eaves and wiring, finding none.
On Friday, firefighters provided mutual aid to Concord, for a house fire on Lowell Street. Lexington firefighters performed a secondary search of the second floor of the burned home, and provided support at the scene and helped with wetting down the house.
