Fire Incidents:
A Waltham man was driving a 2002 Honda on Hayden Avenue June 21 at 8:26 p.m. when he smelled a gas odor and a fire broke out in the car's engine compartment. Engine 2 responded, and its crew extinguished the fire and checked for an extension of fire before the car was towed.
Earlier on Monday, a wire was reported as down on Wood Street at Old Mass Avenue at 8:36 a.m. The power line, which had disconnected from its support brackets, had insulation burning and dripping onto the ground. Wood Street was closed while Nstar crews worked on the line. The road reopened at 11:28 a.m.
A family at their Woburn Street home was trying to repair the engine of a 1991 Chevy van on June 11 around 7:45 p.m. when fire broke out in the engine compartment. Firefighters believe the fire was unintentional and started as a result of mechanical failure. They put it out.
A 55-year-old woman was injured in an accident on June 9 around 8:55 a.m. on Meriam Street. Her SUV rolled onto its passenger side, and firefighters and rescue workers secured the car and cared for her as the car's windshield was removed. The woman was taken out of the car through the opened sunroof and taken by ambulance to Lahey Hospital.
Lexington police on June 9 received a call reporting someone had tried to burn the benches at Willard's Woods the night before. Firefighters found a wooden picnic table had been broken and pieces of it were put in an outside fireplace and lit on fire. The fire was out and cold, and the rest of the picnic table was found on the grass. No other vandalism or fires were found.
Trash and debris in the flatbed of a truck caught fire and while the truck was traveling on Rte. 2 westbound on June 8 around 4:20 p.m. The driver stopped and attempted to put the fire out, then got off the highway at Waltham Street and pulled into a driveway. There, the driver used a garden hose supplied by the homeowner to spray the fire and attempt to put it out. Firefighters arrived and put the fire out.
