A heat advisory issued by the National Weather Service in Taunton is in effect from noon to 7 p.m. in much of the eastern part of the state, including Middlesex County.
Air temperatures are expected to be in the upper 90s, while rising humidity levels could put heat indices into the triple digits, between 100 and 104 degrees for several hours this afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.
It is advised to avoid prolonged work in the sun or in poorly ventilated areas, and people should drink plenty of water and attempt to stay in air conditioned environments this afternoon.
