Know Someone Affected by Memory Loss? This Program Could Help

An upcoming Alzheimer workshop, to be held in Lexington, will be open to the public.

The Alzheimer’s Association will be offering a free workshop on coping with early memory loss next month in Lexington.

The session, to be held from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. on Sept. 16 at the Senior Center, will be free and open to the public, according to a press release from the Alzheimer Association of Massachusetts and New Hampshire.

Helping people to better understand diagnosis of Alzheimer’s, Dementia or other memory-loss related disorders is the agenda for the day, according to the press release, which notes more than 5 million in the United States, including 120,000 in the Massachusetts alone.

“We expect those numbers to triple as the baby boomers age,” said Nicole McGurin, the director of clinical services at the Alzheimer’s Association’s Massachusetts/New Hampshire chapter. “We do not have a cure, but we do know there are actions people can take to improve the quality of life with Alzheimer’s.”

Both medical and non-medical treatments will be discussed, and available resources will be among the topics covered in the Sept. 16 program, which is geared toward people who have been recently diagnosed with memory loss, as well as their family and friends.
