Two Firefighters Taken to the Hospital After Monday Blaze

Fire on East Emerson Road draws two alarms Monday afternoon and sends two firefighters to the hospital.

A fire at an East Emerson Road home late Monday afternoon necessitated a second alarm, and resulted in to two firefighters being taken to the hospital to be treated for heat exhaustion, officials said.

The fire was reported at 3:18 p.m. at 130 East Emerson Road, when a resident who was home alone smelled smoke and heard the smoke alarm. He left the house and called 911 on his cell phone, and neighbors also noticed a dryer vent and the second-floor roof were on fire and called for help.

Firefighters arrived to find fire throughout the roof and attic, and requested a second alarm. Mutual aid came from Hanscom Air Force Base, Waltham, Arlington, Burlington and Bedford.

Lexington firefighters Todd Duggan and David Hargarve were taken to Lahey Clinic where they were treated for heat exhaustion and later released, officials said. 

The fire, which was mainly in the attic and roof area, was put out by about 5:50 p.m.
