Week in Review, July 5 - July 11
A swearing-in ceremony; and biking grows in popularity.
The July 4 holiday was observed on Monday, with many town offices and Cary Memorial Library closed for the holiday. It was the final day of the Lexington Lions Club's 2010 Fourth of July Carnival. Check out the action in this video.
We also learned Monday about a team of bicyclists from Wilson Farm that will be riding in the Pan-Mass Challenge in August in honor of Alan Wilson, who died in October 2008.
Wednesday afternoon, the Fire Department held a swearing-in ceremony at Cary Hall. Philip Boisvert, who spent 28 years with the Reading Fire Department, was sworn in as assistant fire chief. Also, Kevin Ciccone joined the department as a firefighter/EMT. Peter Ricci, a firefighter in Lexington for 13 years, was promoted to lieutenant. See a video of the swearing-in ceremony here.

Thursday night at Cary Memorial Library, Lexington author Helen Epstein Helen Epstein spoke about researching and writing people's lives, in the forum, "Why We Read (and Write) Memoir."
On Friday, Lexington Patch posted a story about educational cooking classes for teens that begins in Lexington this coming week. Two five-day sessions are being offered by Sonia DeMarta, one of the founders of the Lexington Farmers' Market.

Yesterday, Lexington Patch posted a story, "Is Lexington Bike-Friendly Enough?" which explored the increasing popularity of biking, while hearing from some residents who think biking infrastructure needs remain in town.
