Wet Welcome for the Lexington Farmers' Market

Market's opening day interrupted briefly as storm passes through town

When the bell rang at 2 p.m. today signaling the start of the Lexington Farmers' Market, bunches of rhubarb, loaves of bread and tubs of hummus began to fill the bags of meandering shoppers.

But thunder, lightning and heavy rain arrived 30 minutes later, causing the market to close briefly as the storm passed through town. The market reopened shortly after 3 p.m., and vendors and residents braved intermittent showers until the end of opening day at 6:30 p.m.
