Six Lynnfield Middle School students – Christina Albano, Jacqueline Desautels, Maggie Weaver, Zachary Rothwell, Dominick Gravante and Andrew Maglio – recently received the John Mudd Organizational Award from Massachusetts Advocates for Children for their efforts to raise awareness about Down Syndrome.
The project was reportedly motivated after one team member’s sister was diagnosed with Down Syndrome. The students began the project with a survey of students followed by some awareness-raising activities including posters, a video, t-shirts and a Facebook page.
The team reportedly made it as far as the statewide Destination Imagination competition this year and reportedly plans to keep up its activities, including participating in the recent Buddy Walk around Lake Quannapowitt in Wakefield.
