Then and Now: The Long-Ago Boathouse on Suntaug Lake
Each week, Lynnfield Patch looks at an interesting item from the town's past found for sale on eBay.

More than a century ago, a boathouse stood on the shore of Suntaug Lake where you could rent rowboats and/or canoes. Here’s an image for sale on eBay taken back in May, 1909 at the lake, with the island off in the background. By pre-World War I standards, somewhere like this was definitely the place to be on any given Summer day.
Based on the location of the island in the photo, it looks like the boathouse was located on the shoreline over by present-day Newhall Park – which does have some stone or concrete construction remnants of some kind over in that general vicinity. The famed Suntaug Lake Inn was also located not far from this scene and Route 1 would be just around the corner off to the right.
Back in January 2012 I ran this photo galley on Lynnfield Patch, “A Study of Suntaug Lake.” One image shows an old handheld mirror frame, possibly from around this time and minus any glass, which was just sitting on the shoreline at the time.
