Malden Police Plan National Night Out Event
National Night Out is a nationwide program aimed at improving relations between police and the communities they serve.
MALDEN, MA — National Night Out programming will return to Malden next week as local police plan another year of festivities.
The event is set to take place at MacDonald Stadium on Tuesday, Aug. 2 at 32 Pearl Street from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Organized by the city of Malden and the Malden Police Department, the event aims to strengthen relationships between police and the communities they serve. The programming, police said in an announcement last month, “promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer.”

An annual initiative, communities largely hold their events on the first Tuesday in August.
The events date back to 1984, when the then recently established National Association of Town Watch launched the first Night Out campaign in 400 communities across 23 states, as noted on the association's website.
This year, programming will span 16,000 communities in all 50 U.S. states.
