Cable Access HQ Could Be Alternative Site For Cell Tower

While East Mansfield is known for poor cell phone signals, the construction of a cell tower to fix that problem has not been well received.

MANSFIELD, MA — With residents unhappy about the prospect of a cell tower on Branch Street, there could be a new site down the road.

Among the list of alternative sites was the Mansfield Cable Access building, also on Branch Street. Town Manager Kevin Dumas told the selectmen

Town Manager Kevin Dumas told selectmen last week that he spoke with a cable representative and the talks never matured into negotiations, according to the Sun Chronicle.

Jack O’Neill, executive director of Mansfield Cable Access, said the issue will be brought up with the channel's directors again.

While East Mansfield is known for poor cell phone reception, the construction of a cell tower to fix that problem has not been well received by neighbors. In March, some residents called for the tower to be placed in an area with less residential impact.

The proposal is pending in front of the planning board, with the hearing to continue in September.
