Fire Chief Says Fire Station Should Be Sold

Fire Chief Neal Boldrighini told the selectmen Wednesday that it won't be cheap to renovate the current home of the Mansfield FD.

MANSFIELD, MA — When the Mansfield Fire Department moves into their new home next year, they should leave their current home behind, the head of the department told the selectmen Wednesday.

Fire Chief Neal Boldrighini and Mike Ahern of the department of public works informed the board that it's their belief that the town should sell the building instead of looking at renovation, according to the Sun Chronicle. The two said it would cost more than $1 million to repair the building, including repairs to the roof, tower, wiring, heading systems, and floors.

The fire department, like the police department will soon move to a $34 million public safety complex. Town Manager Kevin Dumas said the police department's current home could be used as an Council on Aging center and park and recreation department offices.
