Firework Behind Hand Injury At Mansfield Train Station
A train was not involved, according to Police Chief Ron Sellon.

MANSFIELD, MA — A lit firework caused an explosion and sent a man to the hospital, Mansfield Police confirmed.
Just past 1:30 p.m., parking enforcement officer Steve Simonds heard an explosion and short time later, he found himself applying a tourniquet to the left arm of a 38-year-old Blackstone man who had suffered a significant hand injury, police said.
An preliminary investigation indicates that the man attempted to light a consumer-grade firework. After lighting it, he picked it up and the firework exploded in his hand.

The victim was taken to Rhode Island Hospital.
State Police dogs checked the area and determined that the area was safe for normal pedestrian traffic.

Sellon said the incident was an isolated one near the tracks.
The incident remains under police investigation.
