Mansfield Children Compete in New England Kids Triathlon

Seventeen kids from Mansfield, ages eight to 11, took part in the New England Kids Triathlon at MIT, according to the Sun Chronicle.

The kids named their team Kids for Cal, in honor of their classmate, 11-year-old Calvin Quitzau, who was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a progressive disease that eventually leads to loss of muscle function, when he was five.

The team, which raised about $4,000 to help find a cure to the disease, trained for a couple of months since learning about the race, according to the coach, Gina Fitzpatrick, of Mansfield. “They all did very well and they were happy to be able to help out Calvin,” she told the Chronicle. “They’re excited to do it again next year.”
