TOWN REPORT: Crime Takes A Dip, Opioids Still A Concern
The arrest total is down 13 percent from fiscal year 2016, according to Police Chief Ron Sellon.

MANSFIELD, MA — Crime in Mansfield took a dip, according to statistics in the recently released 2017 Mansfield Town Report.
In his report, Police Chief Ronald Sellon wrote that there were 953 arrests in fiscal year 2017, which ran from July 1, 2016 to June 30, 2017. The arrest figure is down 13 percent from fiscal year 2016.
About 36 percent of the arrests came at the Xfinity Center. The most common reason for a custody was protective custody at 28 percent. Another 21 percent of arrests were due to motor vehicle offense, 12 percent for simple assault, and 3 percent for aggravated assault. Of all assaults, 3 percent were domestic disputes.

The average age of a person arrested in Mansfield was 31 and 65 percent of those taken into custody were men.
There were 715 car crashes in this time period, a 3 percent decrease.

On the fire side, there were 24 structure fires, 21 vehicle fires, three dumpster fires, 30 brush fires, and more than 1887 EMS runs, according to Fire Chief Neal Boldrighini's report.
Boldrighini wrote that opioids continue to be a major source of concern. His department responded to more than 70 opioid overdoses.
