College Football Player from Marblehead Arrested in 'Bloody, Violent' Assault

Prosecutors in western Massachusetts accuse a Marblehead man of an assault on his girlfriend at college during the weekend.

A 2012 Marblehead High School graduate now playing football at Western New England University is being held in jail without bail after he allegedly beat up his girlfriend after she refused to have sex with him, according to reports by WGGB and MassLive.

John Perry was a linebacker and running back for the Magicians and is now a junior linebacker at the Springfield college. He was arraigned Monday in Springfield District Court on charges of aggravated assault and battery.

WGGB said court documents describe it as “a bloody, violent scene that left one young woman with serious injuries.” Perry’s attorney, Edward Principe, said that police have the wrong guy and added that Perry has no criminal record, according to a MassLive report.
