Man Faces Charges After Allegedly Crashing Prius Through Fence

Friday, Aug. 29
A man possibly having a stroke or a seizure at a Washington Street address was taken to the hospital in an ambulance at 8:23 a.m.

A parked Subaru Impreza that was trespassing was towed from a Pleasant Street address at 10:35 a.m.
A lift assist was provided to a woman at a Mohawk Road address at 10:35 a.m.

A woman was reportedly being chased near Devereux and Smith streets at 10:41 a.m. A female walking along the street seemed to be in distress and later the caller said she came across a male and female and the man said he wanted to get the woman who seemed in distress. Then the woman who was with the man began chasing the other girl.
A man fell at least 10 feet off a ladder at a Leicester Road address at 11:10 a.m. He was taken by ambulance to Salem Hospital.
A West Orchard Street resident reported getting an IRS scam telephone call at 12:02 p.m. The caller said they were from the U.S. Treasury Department and were calling about back taxes from 2010.
A dead limb was reportedly on power lines on Homestead Road at 12:22 p.m. A police officer on detail took the report and the Light Department was notified.
A resident on Atlantic Avenue reported receiving a call at 12:59 p.m. from a man who could barely speak English saying he was an investigative officer from the Internal Revenue Service. He was calling because the resident owed money, he said. The resident was told that it was a scam and it should be reported to the Federal Trade Commission and the Treasury Department Inspector General.
A National Grid employee reported at 1:20 p.m. a minor motor vehicle crash from earlier in the day on Eben Weed Lane between a Honda Odyssey and a Ford E250. Both drivers exchanged paperwork.
A Jersey Street resident reported to police at 1:21 p.m. that since the street has been repaved and relined “it is like a drag strip with speeding cars.” The resident said that no part of the day is any worse than others and she would like some speed enforcement. An officer visited the home and spoke to the caller’s spouse, who said that the new double yellow lines decrease their property value and the lines allow cars to drive as fast as they do on West Shore Drive. The resident also inquired about when the crosswalks will be painted and the signs put up. The DPW told police that the lines needed to be painted because the work was funded with Chapter 90 state money.
A woman called the police station at 1:26 p.m. to report last week they lost a clutch wallet somewhere in town. It contained IDs and there has been no activity on the credit cards. She was told to cancel the cards.
A mother told police at 1:40 p.m. that her son left his string backpack on the middle field at the Village School four days ago. The mother did not have any more details about what the bag looked like.
A Robert Road resident reported at 1:41 p.m. that they received a call from someone who said they had been audited since 2007 and owed $4,998. The resident was told it was a scam call and it was not how the IRS operates. They were told to call the Federal Trade Commission.
A complaint came in at 1:59 p.m. about a W.B. Mason truck doing a bad thing on Atlantic Avenue. An officer spoke to the driver and they said they will not block a driveway again.
A driver told police at 2:04 p.m. that she was parked in front of La Belle Femme on Pleasant Street when a man in his 20s began pounding on her car window like he wanted to get in. The man was wearing sunglasses, a red shirt and baseball hat and may have been mentally handicapped. The man was located by police near the Riptide and Marblehead Antiques and found that he aunt works at a nearby business. The man seemed to be OK and his aunt said she will take care and custody of him.
A very minor car crash was reported on Ocean Avenue at 2:05 p.m. There was a language barrier but it ended up there was no noticeable damage.
A resident on Rockaway Avenue called police at 3:29 p.m. to complain that a double yellow line has been painted down the road and has made fast traffic go even faster.
A Broughton Drive resident called police at 5:13 to report that their granddaughter had taken off in her Dodge Caravan without her permission. The girl does not have a license and said she was headed to Lynn. Police departments in neighboring towns were asked to be on the lookout for the Caravan and then later it returned. Police returned to the home to speak with the girl.
A man walked in to the police station at 5:24 p.m. to report he was supposed to pick up his daughter at 5 p.m. but his ex-wife was not cooperating with the pickup time. The mother then came to the station to report that an agreement was made last weekend to have the girls stay an extra night this week.
A well-being check was conducted of a man who appeared passed out in a white Ford F150 at Smith and Pleasant streets at 5:28 p.m. Police found the vehicle unoccupied. Later, the man in the truck came in to the police station asking why he heard his name on the police scanner. He said he was taking a nap in his car after work, which he does sometimes while listening to music.
A golden Cod was reported taken from a Nicholson Street address at 6:14 p.m. The caller did not known when it happened and said they did not want to file a report.
A well-being check was done on a woman at a Beverly Avenue address at 7:01 p.m. The woman was talking to another person on the phone when she dropped the phone and it sounded like something happened. The woman was OK.
A check up was conducted at an Aburndale Road address at 8:18 p.m. at the request of Swampscott police. The resident was a victim of a phone card scam and they purchased the cards at the CVS in Vinnin Square and the scammer may be in Peabody.
A grey Toyota Prius crashed into a fence on Ocean Avenue at 9:07 p.m. An utility pole was also struck but not seriously damaged. The driver refused medical treatment and was arrested. Thomas W. Welch, 19 Iverson Road, Beverly, was charged with operating under the influence of liquor and negligent operation of a motor vehicle.
A loud music complaint came in at 9:58 p.m. about the open windows at Palmer’s. An officer driving by said the music was normal and not loud. Also, a review of the permit said found Palmer’s can have music until 11:30 p.m. with no stipulation about the windows.
A loud group of kids were walking in the street on Mansion Road at 9:10 p.m. A male and a female were having a verbal argument. The area was checked and nothing was found.
A loud party was reported in the front and back yard of a Sagamore Road address at 11:18 p.m. The party was shut down.
Saturday, Aug. 30
A Shuman Road resident reported that a group of about six people have started a fire on the beach near his home at 12:47 a.m. The Fire Department extinguished the fire.
An Evans Road resident reported at 7:01 a.m. that a male typically slows down in front of his house and stares at his girlfriend. It happened a few days ago and the man was told to call police when he sees suspicious behavior happening.
A blue Mazda 5 was parked in a “funny way” in a no parking zone in the post office parking lot on Smith Street at 7:29 a.m. It looked suspicious and would likely make it difficult for other customers to park when the post office opens, according to an employee.
