Marblehead Camp Closes After Positive Coronavirus Test

A counselor-in-training at Children's Island Camp in Marblehead tested positive for the coronavirus.

MARBLEHEAD, MA — Children's Island Camp in Marblehead was closed for cleaning Thursday, a day after a member of the camp's counselor-in-training program tested positive for the coronavirus.

The camp isolated the child, who shows no symptoms, after the child's parent called the camp to say they had also tested positive for COVID-19. The CITs and the group's counselor were also isolated and sent home early.

The YMCA of the North Shore, which runs the camp, had implemented a series of procedures to handle coronavirus infections when it decided to run its program this summer. In a letter to parents, the camp said it was working with state and local health officials and that it will "continue to follow the state re-opening protocols in all aspects of camp to create the safest environment we can in these challenging times."
