Marblehead Festival of Arts Seeks Submissions
The festival is seeking paintings, drawings, photos, crafts, sculptures, creative writing works, and more.
MARBLEHEAD, MA – The Marblehead Festival of Arts is looking for artists and writers who live, work, or are part of an arts or writers' group in Essex County.
The festival is seeking art in several different categories, including painting, drawing, photography, mixed media, and creative writing (full list of acceptable submissions at the end of the post).
There are also categories for art created by artists over the age of 65, student art for grades 5 to 12, and youth art for pre-school through grade 4.

The deadline to submit crafts, drawings, mixed media, painting, photography, prints, sculptures, and senior art is May 18, at noon. The deadline for Writers' World is May 20.

All art must be original. The festival was founded in 1962, and is held every year over the July 4 holiday.
Juried works: Painting: oil, acrylic, or watercolor. Drawing: pencil, charcoal, pen and ink, conté crayon, and other media. Printmaking: etching, dry point, silk-screen, engraving, monoprints, lithography, linoleum cuts and other relief forms, woodcut and wood engraving, and other accepted forms of printmaking. Photography: created within the past three years, in color or black- and-white.
Crafts: original handcrafts, traditional or contemporary, such as quilts, collage, jewelry, textiles, stained glass, pottery, and calligraphy. Sculpture: three-dimensional works, all styles and genres, appropriate in size for indoor display. Mixed Media: a single composition made of two or more traditional or non-traditional media such as paint, drawing, textiles, collage, assemblage, image transfer, papier-mâché, wax and found objects. No pieces that require electricity for viewing can be accepted.
Writers World: previously unpublished adult work in Fiction (up to 4,000 words), Creative Non-fiction (up to 3,000 words) and Poetry (up to 50 lines).
Painting the Town: a one-day event, on Friday, June 30, culminating in a judged exhibit. Artists meet for breakfast, then select locations in town to paint scenes en plein air. At the end of the day, artists frame their works and submit them for the Painting the Town Exhibit.
Non-juried works: Senior Art: any of the juried category genrés created by persons 65 years or older. Applicable specifications will be the same. Student and Youth Art: again, all genres, divided into Youth (pre-school through Grade 4) and Students (Grades 5 through 12).
