Marblehead Jewish Academy Receives $5M Donation

Cohen Hillel Academy will be renamed after its benefactor, Arthur J. Epstein.

MARBLEHEAD, MA – Around 1985, the Lynn Hebrew Day School was renamed to acknowledge Eli and Bessie Cohen. This summer, Cohen Hillel Academy will be renamed again to honor the school's longtime volunteer, Arthur J. Epstein, who recently donated $5 million to the school.

According to a recent announcement from the academy, this gift is the largest in the school's 62-year history. The renaming of the school is with the support of the Cohen family, and a permanent tribute to the family will be installed.

"This significant gift clearly reflects Arthur's commitment to preserving an independent Jewish school for generations to come," read the announcement. It recalled Epstein's history with the school, which includes helping to create a building fund for the current site, and working to retire the school's mortgage.
