Marblehead Military Flyover, Road Closures At Fort Sewall Set For Marine Corps Celebration

North Shore residents are advised to expect the military flyover as part of the 250th U.S. Marine Corps anniversary concert and event.

MARBLEHEAD, MA — A Boston Marine Week celebration of the U.S. Marine Corps' 250th anniversary will include a concert, demonstrations and military jet flyover at Marblehead's Fort Sewall on Thursday afternoon.

North Shore residents are advised to expect the flyover at 4:30 p.m. along with other military apparatus in Marblehead and neighboring communities.

"Community members may see helicopters or planes overhead during that time, but please note that those demonstrations are part of the celebration," Marblehead officials said. "There is no danger to the public.

"We ask drone operators to be mindful and avoid using drones during the course of the event."

The public parking beach at Fort Beach will be closed to the public from noon to 6 p.m., with Front Street closed at Franklin Street from 3 to 6 p.m.

The public is invited to use public transportation to come see the Marine Corps Flyover from Fort Sewall.

Front Street and Fort Sewall Lane residents will have access to and from their properties as long as public safety allows.

A ceremony and military concert will be part of the program that begins at 4:15 with the Quantico Marine Band playing music.

The ceremony starts at 4:30 with a March of the Colors, national anthem and flyover featuring a formation of F/A-18E/F Super Hornets.

There will be remarks from Col. J.J. Wilson, local, state and federal leaders, the presentation of a birthday cake accompanied by a slow Marine's hymn, a fife and drums with musket salute from Glover's Regiment, and a 24-person rifle platoon drill that lasts about 11 minutes, followed by additional music and the opportunity for the public to take pictures with members of the Marine Corps.

A free concert will then be held at the Landing Restaurant on Front Street beginning at 6:30 p.m., featuring the Quantico Marine Band.
