Marblehead Police Celebrate 164th Birthday
Wish your local Marblehead officer a happy (police department) birthday!
MARBLEHEAD, MA – Happy birthday, Marblehead Police! According to a Facebook post from the Marblehead Police Department, the first police chief was appointed on April 11, 1853.
The post said the Board of Selectmen appointed Adoniram Orne as the first police chief, effectively establishing the department as one of the first in the country. One hundred and sixty four years later, and not looking a day over 30.
