MARBLEHEAD, MA — The Marblehead Education Association on Sunday once again pressed the need for a Proposition 2 1/2 tax override to produce revenues for what the union said is necessary to fund a new collective bargaining agreement.

"We know that our town needs new revenue and I want to thank the Select Board today for putting out that need for an override in our community," MEA co-President Jonathan Heller said during a news conference on Sunday.

Heller said that an override proposal of $926 per year for the average median house in the town is necessary to fund the MEA proposals, while an override of $300.74 is necessary to fulfill the town's proposal.

"Mediation continued throughout the weekend between the Marblehead School Committee and the Marblehead Education Association, but members of both sides were still meeting Sunday night without any significant agreements between the bargaining parties," the Marblehead School Committee said in a statement Sunday night.
