From NMYO: The Northeast Massachusetts Youth Orchestras present their Afternoon of Spring Concerts on Sunday, May 7, 2017 at North Reading High School’s Performing Arts Center. There will be two performances; a concert at 2:30 pm and a second concert at 5:00 pm. The concerts are free to the general public; no tickets required.
The 2:30 pm concert features NMYO's Prelude and Overture String Ensembles, Junior Flute Choir, Flute Choir, and the Intermezzo Orchestra which will premiere a new composition written by the Intermezzo musicians along with NMYO composer-in-residence, Robert J. Bradshaw. The 5:00 pm concert features NMYO's advanced ensembles including Symphony Orchestra, Wind Ensemble, and Select Flute Choir. They will perform masterworks by Bach, Mussorgsky, Sibelius, as well as contemporary flute selections.

NMYO concerts appeal to all ages, are family-friendly, and are a great way to expose children to orchestral music in a comfortable setting while supporting the musical training of the area’s finest young musicians. Each concert will last approximately 90 minutes and both will be followed by a reception after the performance.

In keeping with NMYO’s mission of serving the community through music, the concert stage will be sprinkled with orange as all musicians will be wearing orange Cure CMT4J shoelaces to raise awareness and funds for the research of this rare genetic disorder that has affected one of NMYO’s families. Cure CMT4J shoelaces will be sold before and after the concerts so that audience members can also participate in supporting the CMT4J.org Foundation.
An Afternoon of Spring Concerts is sponsored in part by the Cape Ann Savings Bank, Carriage House Violins of Johnson String Instrument, the Institution for Savings, and the North Reading Cultural Council, a local agency supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.
