1. There will be a reception this evening from 6-8 p.m. at the to welcome the new director, Margaret Cardello. The event will be catered, and is free to the public. 

2. Marlborough Youth Soccer has extended their spring registration period through today. Visit the organization's website to register, and learn of other important dates.  

3. Marlborough Patch is looking for local Whiz Kids — youngsters who stand out because of their accomplishments and great attitudes. Pass along to some parents you know, or e-mail a nomination yourself.

4. As a local wind advisory expires in Marlborough early this morning, temperatures have returned to the frigid end of the spectrum. With a high of 22 degrees today, the wind chill will make it feel like zero or less at times. Make sure you bundle up!

5. There is always a high risk of home fires during the winter months with furnaces running most of the time, and snow often blocking vents and the like. The Society of Fire Protection Engineers recently completed a survey that found Americans typically misjudge home fire risks. See the story here.
