5 Things to Know Today: Jan. 18

A list of things Marlborough residents might want to know today.

  1. There is no school today. The system is hosting a professional development day for its teaching staff. School will resume at its normal hours beginning tomorrow.
  2. A Learn to Play Hockey program begins today at the New England Sports Center and will run through March 10. Classes are Tuesdays and Thursdays in a six-week course for kids. The program costs $200 for each student. Click here for details.
  3. There will be a Board of Trustees meeting for the Academy of Math and Science Charter School this afternoon at 1 p.m. This is a long-range planning meeting for the school that will be held at the Yawkey Sports Training Center, 512 Forest St. Click here to see agenda.
  4. Picked from a variety of sporting match-ups at the Marlborough High School today, the girls’ varsity basketball team will face Groton-Dunstable in a home game this evening at 7 p.m.
  5. There is a book club today for seniors at Academy Knoll Apartments, 22 Broad St., beginning at 1 p.m.
