5 Things You Need to Know Today: Dec. 8
There is an art exhibition in Marlborough this evening and a couple of AMSA students make good in an international contest.

Our weekday morning column, 5 Things You Need to Know, provides you with information that can help you plan your day and give you some fodder for water cooler conversations.
1. will host musician Brendan Hogan this Friday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. as part of their regular musical series. Come out and enjoy some good music in a great environment at 406 Lincoln St.
2. There is an opening reception for the 2011 Miniature Show this evening at the gallery from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Guests will have the opportunity to vote for the "People's Choice" award through Dec. 21. The exhibit will be on display in the gallery through Dec. 28.

3. Students at the here in Marlborough recently place highly in the Lions International Peace Poster Contest. It is an international contest that encourages children, ages 11 – 13 to creatively express what peace means to them. The 2011-2012 contest theme is “Children Know Peace.” Irena Russell, who has been an art teacher with AMSA's art department since 2006, recently announced that the winners of this year’s Lion International Contest are two of her students. Kasandra Yee, grade 8, of Framingham, has won First Place and Ilakya Kumar, grade 8, of Shrewsbury, has won Second Place.
4. will light their “Tree of Light” at 5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 15. Guests will gather in the Leahy Conference Room for some holiday refreshments and the fourth grade chorus at the will provide entertainment. This year, Karen Moore, Marlborough Hospital’s new president and CEO, will "light" the tree. Ms. Moore began her new position at the end of November. 5. The Booster Club with host their Holiday Craft Fair Saturday, Dec. 10 at the high school from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be many one-of-a-kind crafts and all sorts of potential gifts. There will also be a raffle table, school spirit wear and a goodies table.
