5 Things You Need to Know Today: Jan. 5

One local bank did the right thing this holiday season, and Marlborough Police still need your help on a couple of cases.

Our weekday morning column, 5 Things You Need to Know, provides you with information that can help you plan your day and give you some fodder for water cooler conversations.

1. The residents at in Marlborough had some gifts to unwrap under the Christmas tree this holiday season thanks to some generous donations from employees of . The staff at Marlborough Savings Bank helped the Activity Department at Bolton Manor complete the residents’ wish list through a Giving Quilt. Bank employees purchased gifts based on tags from the quilt. As a result of their kindness, all residents at the facility received a present this year. Way to go!

2. The is accepting new members to be a part of its 25th anniversary season. The chorus provides an opportunity for boys and girls in grades 3 through 12 to develop their voices and musicianship. Under the direction of Jan Patterson the chorus meets on Monday beginning at 6:30 p.m. at Hudson High School in the chorus room, C110. January rehearsals are on Jan. 9, 23 and 30. There is no rehearsal on Monday, Jan. 16 because of the Martin Luther King holiday. Boys and girls who love to sing will learn enjoyable, challenging music in the folk, multicultural and classical traditions. Members pay a participation fee. 3. The  has issued a plea asking for help locating a prime suspect in recent home invasion robberies.  was involved in several robberies over a course of three to four months. Anyone with information on the robberies or knows the location of Platt is asked to call police at 508-485-1212, ext. 6957.

4. The Patrick-Murray Administration today Wednesday that an additional $21.8 million for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), increasing the maximum benefit to help low-income residents in Massachusetts heat their homes this winter. The additional funding, bringing the total Massachusetts allocation to $99.5 million, follows continued advocacy by the Administration for maximum funding for the program this year.
