Be A Detective: Join Your Security Camera With Marlborough PD

A new program allows for businesses and homeowners to register their security cameras with the police.

MARLBOROUGH, MA—Be a part of the police squad, so to speak, by helping out with your own equipment.

Marlborough police have a new tool to help them deter crime and keep neighborhoods safer, Police Chief David Giorgi announced recently.

Called SafeCam, the popular program is used across the country and lets residents and businesses with security cameras register with the Marlborough Police Department, which essentially logs these cameras in the system should footage be needed in an investigation.

"This tool is another step in strengthening the partnership between the department and our city’s residents and businesses who want to work together to make Marlborough a safer community," said the chief in a statement.

It's strictly a volunteer program and only members of the department have access to the information. Also, if needed, police would have to get permission to access any footage.
