Biggest Loser Comes to Marlborough

The Biggest Loser's Mark Kruger will visit Marlborough tomorrow.

Mark Kruger likes to say he left half of himself in California as a contestant on the 5th season of NBC's "The Biggest Loser." But the rest of him will be in Marlborough Tuesday morning sharing his journey with local residents in a session at the Holiday Inn and Suites

Kruger and his older brother Jay became contestants on the well-known show (now entering its 12th season) after they were approached outside a Red Sox game by a casting agent for the show. To this day, says Kruger, they are the only two contestants to have been chosen that way.

"Basically this person walked up to us and called us a couple of fat guys right on Yawkey Way," he laughed.

A resident of Dartmouth, Kruger made it to week 9 before being eliminated, though he was brought back on the show in subsequent weeks. Since coming back to Massachusetts he said life has largely returned to normal, but a healthy lifestyle now plays a huge role.

"I'm an avid runner now," he said. "So far in 2011 I've run two 50ks and a marathon this past week. Running gives me peace of mind, and it is a great way to stay healthy and fit."

Now 38 years old, Kruger admits it's not all a cake-walk, and when he comes to Marlborough tomorrow he will share the things he's learned about fitness and maintaining weight loss.

"It's a struggle everyday," he said. "It's the same for me as it is with any other person. What I did is impossible in normal life having to go to a normal job, and living in this society of convenience. There are so many avenues to make the bad decisions, it is important to learn about planning meals, to work out everyday, and stay focused on your goals. Also, write down everything you eat to give yourself accountability."

The breakfast session will begin at 7:45 a.m. To register, call the Marlborough Chamber of Commerce today at 508-485-7746. Tickets are $20 for chamber members; $30 for non-members.
