New Marlborough Mexican Restaurant Opens Doors

The restaurant is taking over the former Halfway Cafe building along Route 20.

MARLBOROUGH, MA — Nearly two years after the Marlborough Halfway Cafe location closed, a new restaurant has opened in its Boston Post Road building.

The Mexican restaurant Don Patron opened at 11 a.m. Monday, offering traditional fare like burritos, birria tacos, mariscos and plenty more.

"Come and experience the finest Mexican food and warm hospitality," the owners said in a social media post on Sunday.

Don Patron is part of the local Acapulco's Mexican Family Restaurant chain, according to the Facebook foodie group Chew On This. Acapulco's has eight locations in Connecticut and Massachusetts, including restaurants in Subdury and Milford.

The Halfway Café — also a local chain in Massachusetts — had been open in Marlborough for about 23 years. In a Facebook post in May 2021, the owners said the closure came after they received an offer to sell the property.

Following Monday's opening, Don Patron will be open Sunday to Thursday 10 a.m. to 10 p.m, and 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, according to the restaurant's website.

Don Patron's opening follows another Tex-Mex move in Marlborough. Zarape Restaurant along Maple Street reopened in late March after a full renovation, and held a grand reopening ceremony last week.
