Flash Flood Warning Issued In MA As Powerful Storms Head East

A flash flood warning means flooding is imminent or already happening. Storms Friday morning have brought tornadoes and heavy rain.

MARLBOROUGH, MA — A wide section of Massachusetts between Marlborough and Boston was placed under a flash flood warning Friday morning as strong storms bearing heavy rain moved east across the region.

The flood warning means that flooding is already happening or is imminent. The National Weather Service advised residents to especially avoid driving through flooded roadways.

"At 9:18 a.m., Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. The expected rainfall rate is 1 to 2 inches in 30 minutes. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly," the weather service said in the flood warning.

Friday morning's storms had already brought wild weather to portions of southern New England, including possible tornado strikes in northeastern Connecticut, the Providence area and southeastern Massachusetts.

The flood warning will be in effect until just before noon on Friday.
