Marlborough Diner Named Best In The Country By Travel & Leisure

But you're not surprised, are you?

MARLBOROUGH, MA—Diner food can satisfy a hunger craving like no other. From early breakfasts to breaks from work to late night grub after imbibing, there's nothing like eating a plate of meatloaf and gravy or a stack of flapjacks while sitting on a stool.

Travel & Leisure just released its list of 25 best diners in the country, and Marlborough's Villatoro Restaurant & Cafe took the number one spot.

"Throughout the decades, design in diners has followed trends," writes Travel & Leisure. "In the '50s, the space race meant neon rockets and stainless steel countertops. In the '60s, Mediterranean and neoclassical styles became popular as diners fought to maintain customers’ interest while fast food gained popularity.
It clearly worked: Fast food stuck around, but diners did, too."

Travel & Leisure constructed its list based on Yelp!'s business rankings in the diner category, excluding large chains. The rating is based on an algorithm that looks both at the number of reviews and star ratings, the magazine said. No more than two diners per state could make the list in order to ensure geographic diversity.
