Marlborough Offers Cooling Centers As Intense Heat Nears

Heat indices could reach triple-digits on Thursday and Friday due to the combination of heat and humidity.

MARLBOROUGH, MA — With the hottest temperatures of the summer so far approaching this week, Marlborough is reminding resident about local resources to stay cool.

Marlborough will open a cooling center to the public on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at the senior center, 40 New St. The facility will be open 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. The city is also suggesting residents head to the Solomon Pond Mall for air conditioning. The mall is open until 8 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday, and 9 p.m. on Friday.

For outdoor activities, the Ghiloni Park and Stevens Park splash pads will have extended hours Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Marlborough'a Memorial Beach (free for city residents) is open 11 a.m. to 6:45 p.m. daily.

According to the National Weather Service, the heat index — a measure of what the temperature feels like when humidity is taken into account — could max out at between 99 and 101 on Friday afternoon. Thursday will only be a little cooler with the heat index somewhere between 91 and 96.

The senior center is located at 40 Fairbank Road, and the Goodnow Library is at 21 Concord Road.
