MARLBOROUGH, MA — This new store is lighting up Marlborough, one candle at a time.

Vibes Candles sells hand-poured crystal candles, which are designed to bring light and positivity into people's lives. The business started in owner Lex Dascoli's home, where she converted two bedrooms, the garage and the basement into a makeshift candle studio.

Dascoli said she started creating candles after her mother passed away. "During that time, it was so hard for me, you know, depression was setting in. So I said, get your butt up and start creating."

She always remembered her mother and father burning candles in their house. And one day, when she was looking through an old memory box, she found a sentimental note from her dad to her mom.

"It said 'Hey Vibie'," she said, adding that her mom's name was Viola. "It was just like a cute little note he wrote to her one morning, and so I knew I had to use that nickname in some way."

Vibes Candles is known for its crystal candles, which are crafted with non-toxic ingredients. Dascoli, who trained at the Gemological Institute of America, makes sure that the candles are both safe and meaningful for her customers.

"It's not just a mass-produced candle or product," she said. "These are products that I make right here in my store with my own two hands, so they're very special."

The business grew for three years through pop-up events in the area before Dascoli opened her storefront at 109 Main St. in 2024. Today, her shop offers 10 different crystal candles, as well as hands-on experiences, like classes in crystal candle-making.

Class-goers receive a kit with everything they need to make their own candle that they can take home with them.

Beyond her candles, Dascoli said she is deeply involved in the Marlborough community. She serves on the Board of Directors for A Day To Benefit Veterans, is a member of the Marlborough Downtown Village Association and the Regional Chamber of Commerce.

For Dascoli, Vibes Candles is more than a business. It's a way to honor family, spread positivity and create a space where the community can come together.

"I just want the world and my Marlborough people and surrounding towns to know that I'm here," she said.
